Michael, Design Engineer
Michael, is one of Excellent Employees of VACON in 2007-the same year he joined VACON. And Jussi, R&D Manager, Michael’s direct superior gives high score on Michael’s performance in the annual Development Discussion. ‘He is committed to work, able to work independently, has courage to go ahead even if there is no path to follow. He has done very well especially in the transnational operational environment.’
When thinking back on his life, Michael says,’ It was a little dramatic story when talking about my career in Vacon, since I am the first engineer who joined in this young R&D center. No more than one year, the number of R&D personnel increased to 15, new equipments were introduced, dedicated R&D premises and laboratory were established. Still, this team is growing continuously with fast step...
It is fortunate that my growing engineering career could be developed in this growing company, being advanced in the market, Vacon gets impressive achievement in her area of expertise, like a young person, the energy and inspiration, also the flexible way of working, is the key to her success. On the other hand, as one of the high-tech company in industry, the most advanced AC Drive technology is another key to success, which motivates me, a software engineer, to devote to my R&D work at the same time.
I am responsible for the system software development for the new generation AC drives, by which the driver could perform its control and communication process, and AC drive is really a fresh area to me, at first, the complexity of the projects was far beyond my expectation, however, after receiving a specialized technical know-how, especially the global cooperation improved my technological strength soon, as a result, both Finland and local site can provide high quality software to meet global and local customer’s requirement.
There is still a long way to go for Vacon and our local R&D team, and I hope a prosperous future for both my engineering career and this young company.’
Toni Laiho, Team Leader, Production Testing Team, Vacon in Finland
I have worked for Vacon since 2001, starting with assembling higher-power drives; first with Vacon CX, our first product generation, and later with the new Vacon NX.
While working in different production lines, I have had a pleasant possibility to know also other world-class drives assemblers. In the year 2005, I faced new challenges when I started to work as a Team Leader for Testing Team. Work as a team leader has been very interesting, and I learn new things every day. This task also calls for more responsibility, which is an important motivational factor.
I have enjoyed working at Vacon, thanks to the good atmosphere in the Production team and work flexibility. At production, you have a possibility to work in different teams. In this way, I have gained experience in different tasks and got to know new people. Vacon also offers good career opportunities.
Vacon supports us also in our leisure time. Our spare time activity benefits include e.g. a possibility to play floorball, go to the gym and go to see ice-hockey games for free.
Jussi Pouttu, Development Engineer, Power Electronics, Vacon in Finland
I joined Vacon in 2002 as a summer trainee at R&D in Finland. After the summer, I started to complete my M.Sc Thesis at Vacon. In my M.Sc thesis, I explored features of IGBT saturation detection.
After graduation I started as Development Engineer in the Power Electronics Team. The product development work is challenging and I learn new things all the time. As I would put it, small hurry keeps the mind sharp. The work atmosphere, however, is free and easy with nice colleagues.
Every now and then I have also possibility to travel around and visit customers sites in the field. For three years, I have sometimes participated commissioning and repair of our drives. During that time I have visited many interesting places from fishing vessel in Argentina and Greenland to coal mine in Germany and oil refinery in Korea.
Juha-Pekka Suomela, Account Manager, Vacon GmbH in Germany
I have worked for Vacon since 1998. I started as After Sales Engineer. In the After Sales I had a great opportunity to familiar myself with the Vacon products and participate in developing the after sales services and tools at Vacon. In 2000, I worked three months period in the Sales Support in the Vacon subsidiary in the UK.
When I returned to Finland, I started as an Area Marketing Manager. I was a sales contact to certain customers. Work included account management, sales promotion and project handling. That time we were also launching a new product generation so I gained a great deal of experience of new product introduction process to our customers.
In 2004, I moved to Segment Marketing Team. As a Segment Marketing manager I was responsible for Building Automation and Water segments. I also continued as a Key Account Manager for a global customer.
In 2005, I moved to Germany with my family. I work now in Vacon GmbH as an Account Manager and I concentrate on German Original Equipment Manufacturing (OEM) customer sales and project handling.
I like to work Vacon because it is a growing and youthful company, which offers challenges and plenty opportunities to develop yourself. Also the work atmosphere is great. I have great colleagues and we have good laughs about our crazy chats every day.
Heidi Puurunen, Project Manager, iScala roll-out Project, Vacon in Finland
I was still studying in the University when I started in Vacon. I worked as an Export Assistant in Vaasa, Finland. In Spring 2001, I received an opportunity to start as an Assistant, Global Customers. I moved to Helsinki to work in our Vantaa office.
In 2005, I received new work challenges when I started as an iScala roll-out Project Manager. I am responsible for new iScala program implementation globally in the Vacon Group.
I like to work at Vacon and I recommend that to others because Vacon is a fast growing company where you are encouraged to take new challenges and develop yourself. Vacon also offers new work challenges and opportunities, which are powerful motivators. Also the company values are very similar with my set of values. In my opinion, the personnel are taken care of very well. The management of Vacon is working well and they are eager to learn new things. The Vacon brand is well known, at least in Finland, and the company is perceived as a positive and interesting company.
